Agile Project Management in easy steps

In October 2014 I shared how I would start work on the second edition of Agile Project Management in easy steps. The last few months have been hectic, with my MBA studies, and starting a new job; but finally, last week, we got the final edits completed and the manuscript files have been handed over to the publishers. We’re just waiting for them to finish proofreading and giving a green light before we can announce the publication date, but it looks certain to be in May 2015.

We’ve been able to update it with current thinking around agile practices, introduce some new topics into existing chapters, and add some totally new material as well.

Table of contents

  1. Agile Projects
  2. Agile Project Management
  3. Scrum
  4. Dynamic Systems Development Method (DSDM)
  5. Extreme Programming (XP)
  6. Lean Development
  7. Feature-Driven Development (FDD) *new chapter
  8. Getting started
  9. Foundations
  10. Development
  11. Deployment
    • includes new topic on User Experience Design (UXD)
  12. Post-project
  13. Agile projects at scale *new chapter

I was particularly pleased to include the new chapter on Agile Projects at Scale, because this is an issue that many larger organisations are facing today. I was able to include topics on Lean governance, Large-Scale Scrum (LeSS), Scaled Professional Scrum (Nexus), Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe), and Disciplined Agile Delivery (DAD). The delay in getting the manuscript completed ended up working to our advantage, as the section on Scaled Professional Scrum was ‘hot off the press’ at that time — so to have missed it would have made the book seem out of date immediately (always a risk, of course).

Finally, it was a relief to get the last edits done, and the team at In Easy Steps seem very happy with the results, they have already asked me to submit a proposal on another book … so, watch this space.

Update: It was finally published in September 2015.

Update: The next book will be ‘Scrum in easy steps‘, published in early 2017.
