Lean Business Change started as the blog of David Morris, and has since grown to promote our courses and books.
Sophorum Limited is an independent trading company for training, consulting, and public speaking as well as publishing online and in print. Founded in the UK by David Morris and Anneke Sezier in 2006, it now operates in New Zealand and Australia.
Sophora is the Latin name for the Kowhai, the national flower of New Zealand. We chose the name because we had already planned on moving to NZ, and it is represented in our logo, along with a red Poppy and Rose, representing our UK and Belgian origins.
About David Morris
I want to help build beautiful businesses, that care about planet and people as well as profit; humane workplaces fit for the 21st century, where everyone has a stake in the outcome and an opportunity to contribute to direction.
Throughout the last 35 years, I have worked with some great people and had opportunities to grow in a range of roles across many industries. I have had some success and lots of fun using lean and agile practices for well over 20 years.
As an experienced lean change facilitator and agile coach, I have helped organisations realise the benefits of lean value-driven change, through a real hands-on approach:
- working in and across projects; in a range of capacities
- guiding governance and programme thinking
- building and developing motivated teams
- helping select the right products to build, ensuring they are designed for a good customer experience across their full life-cycle, and are delivered right first time.
I now work with leadership in larger enterprises looking to adopt business agility and enabling people to develop excellent products. Currently Manager for Agile PMO and Coaching with Fiserv‘s Digital Channels division, helping guide their ongoing journey towards business agility and continual improvement.
In my MBA research paper, ‘The Paradox of Agile Transformation‘, I realised why I was so tired of seeing attempts at improving enterprise agility undermined by the wrong approach, and have become more focused on how to better align the approaches we take.
Contributing back to the community is important. I launched Agile on the Beach NZ (inaugural event in April 2019), work with the Agile Alliance, and contribute to many local meetup groups. I also love writing, as author for ‘Scrum‘ (2017) and ‘Agile Project Management‘ (2015); contributing editor for ‘Agile Extension to the Business Analysis Body of Knowledge‘ (2010), editor for many wikipedia pages, and providing occasional answers on Quora too.
For those interested in badge collecting, I am: Certified Scrum Professional (CSP), Certified Trainer for ICAgile, Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), Certified ScrumMaster (CSM), SAFe Agilist (SA), Certified IT Professional (CITP), Certified Business Analysis Professional™ (CBAP), and hold a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from University of Auckland.
